The Confederates (Al-Ahzab)

Verses 33-34 GROUP_1090 33.33-34

33
Stay in your homes and do not flaunt your charms as in the former times of ignorance. Attend to your prayers, pay the zakat and obey God and His Messenger. Women of the [Prophet’s] Household, God seeks only to remove all impurity from you, and to make you completely pure.
34
Bear in mind all that is recited in your homes of the revelations of God and of wisdom. God is all pervading and all aware.

Commentary

(a) Here, addressing the Prophet’s consorts about correct behaviour, instruction is indirectly given to Muslim women as to how they should conduct themselves. Unlike worldly women, it should not be their aim to show off their charms and finery. Their attention should be entirely directed towards the worship of God. They should spend their wealth for the cause of God and their time in understanding the teachings of Islam. This style of life makes one pure and righteous and it is only the pure and righteous who are approved of by Almighty God.
